What Should I wear?

Your choice of clothing and grooming plays a huge role in the success of a headshot session. With this in mind, we’ve prepared some handy hint sheets and style guides which we will send you once you’ve made your booking. We’ll cover suggested colours, textures, layering, hair and make up choices so that you can come along on the day, ready to crush it!

How should I prepare?

You are making a decent investment of time and money in the shoot, so it makes sense to come ready to play. Get a decent night’s sleep, leave yourself plenty of time and make sure you’re hydrated. If you have a clear idea of what you want from the session, that can really help too. Think about how you intend to use the images - what are you trying to communicate and why? Then, turn up with good energy, be coachable and we’ll take care of the rest!

What if I’m nervous?

Don’t be! Often it can take a little while to shake out and relax into the session, but it’s our job to put you at ease and coach you towards great results. Once you start seeing the images emerging, most of our clients get excited and start to enjoy the process. Remember what it was like to have your portrait taken each year in school? We promise you, it will be nothing like that!

Can I bring a friend?

As a general rule, we discourage friends and family to attend because, while it might seem like a good idea to have some support in the room, they can end up making you more self-conscious in front of the camera. There are exceptions. If you are under 16, then we expect an adult guardian to accompany you. If you have mobility issues or need a translator, then again it makes sense, but otherwise, take a deep breath and come alone.

Will we shoot in studio or outside?

Yes! Often we’ll find time to shoot inside, using studio lighting and modifiers to create beautiful and complimentary lighting patterns. Then, if the British weather allows, we’ll venture out to make use of natural light and surroundings. It really depends on what you are looking for from the session. If you have a clear idea of the kind of images you’d like to capture, then just let us know once you’ve made your booking and we can plan accordingly.

How will I receive my images?

It is not unusual for us to take a couple of hundred images during a shoot. From those, we will select the images that have the most potential and compile then into an online gallery which will be emailed to you. You can take your time to look through the gallery, have your agent, friends or family bookmark their favourites and then, once you’ve selected the winning images, we’ll start the post-processing work. The images will be retouched, colour graded and polished to ensure they are of the highest quality before they are returned to you in a new gallery with password-protected download links.

What’s your approach to retouching?

We are sensitive to the ethics of retouching and, particularly for the entertainment industry, it is important that a headshot remains a true likeness of the subject or you’ll just end up alienating the casting agent when you walk through the door with all your ‘perfect flaws’! With this in mind, we will retouch any non-permanent blemishes or imperfections such as spots and skin-tone variations. At a client’s request, we may soften bags under the eyes but otherwise, we want to celebrate who you are and not airbrush away the things that make you unique.

How long will you hold onto the images?

We keep all images securely archived for a period of two years after the shoot, unless our clients request otherwise. This means that if you’d like to invest in additional images from the collection, but your budget doesn’t allow you to do so immediately, there is no rush.

What’s your cancellation policy?

We understand that things can come up at the last minute and we try to remain as flexible as possible. If you need to cancel a session and can give us at least 48 hours notice, we will happily reschedule without any penalty incurred. If you just forget show up, we are likely to be less sympathetic! If the cancellation is unavoidable then reach out and let us know what’s going on; we can nearly always figure something out so that your investment is not wasted.
